Tisha B’Av over, this piece comes from the reality that there is no limit on grief. Like freedom, it’s not a border concept. Tisha B’Av is out and we enter another orbit, take it as a prompt. Get up and on with it. Something we could say every day.
Blessing After the Fast You made the Fast then drew a ritual boundary on Grief When the fast was out the sun set and you took a Breath You went to sleep and thought As-If You welcomed sleep and welcomed Forget. The next morning you knew no border on Sadness Someone gone into more grief and it knocked you Over You had a longer distance to Fall And that’s what you did you Fell. Within and without you could not Speak Days after the full day Fast And this thing you call Grief A persistent presence of Sad. When you are alive to God or Nature It tosses you Around It works You. Amen. j/sg For After Tisha B’Av
