We convene a group in our town for recovering addicts (Shalvah) and another devoted to raising the awareness curtain on mental illness-mental health (No Shande). The boundary between the two groups — no boundary; a subtle difference in vocabulary. We have been secret with our stories. Confidentiality does not mean secrecy. Secrecy is part of the problem. It’s time to tell the stories.
Always Messy, part 2
A Non Theology of the Meeting
My friend saw this posted on the wall of his neighborhood coffee house.
Wake up.
Kick ass.
Repeat.
There’s a theology. These are the questions I hear: is it safe? Existence. Is it meaningful? How? How to feel meaning when I lose the sense of meaning. Is it G*d-full? G*d hidden? How to coax G*d out of the hiding places. How to interpret the hiding places, how to read the texts of our own lives.
So non-theoretical: how to live.
I didn’t say all that last night. I thought it.
